Dummy Plug? What’s That?

In addition to making  a full line of power and audio connectors, Neutrik also offers something called a “dummy” plug, which is designed to occupy an opening in a wiring panel until an actual connector is installed.

Understanding that many connector panels are a “work in progress” even after they are actually in use, Neutrik makes it possible to pre-punch openings in a panel and then install and cable connectors on an as-needed basis.

Powercon True1

As great as PowerCon connectors are, they have one potentially serious flaw.  They can’t be connected “under load”.  That means that the device or piece of equipment that is being hooked up with a regular PowerCon equipped cable can’t be “on” when it is plugged in.

You can read more about that here.

Neutrik True1 PowerCon Connector

The True 1 series of connectors has been designed to address this problem.

The sequence in which the conductors in a PowerCon True 1 make contact with their mating contact mean that you can connect under load without concern of arcing between two energized contacts.
